Appreciating the Moment
In “Appreciating the Moment” by Jay Hasheider, there is a boy who is twenty years old and is getting ready to move out of his home. The father explains what is going on as they help him pack his belongings and load them onto the car. The father explains how painful it can be to see your child move away. He also says “it is every child and every parents goal to achieve separation”. There is a baseball game going on as they are getting the son ready to go. They listen as they are doing many things. The game starts getting exciting, so the son wanted everyone to go and watch the last inning. They all forgot about everything and enjoyed the game. As their team won they were full of joy and enjoyed that little moment to it’s fullest.

I enjoyed reading this narrative because I am still at home and hope to transfer out in a year. I can understand what the father is talking about. I will also be the first to move out. I am pretty sure I will shed a few tears before leaving as well, my mom and I cry a lot. It was very interesting and I like how he told this story. I definitely agree that every child and every parent’s goal is to separate. Whether it is when the child goes off to college or when they get married. There is always some point in life when you should go experience a life without living with your parents. I love their “magical moment”, and I hope to have one as well before I leave my home.
